Deposits with different bank are insured individually. However, in case a bank has one or more branches, the head office and all branch offices are considered as one and the same bank. If a person has deposits with a bank's head office as well as with one or more of its branches, the deposits will be summed up to calculate the insured cover.
Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund (BDIF) is a legal entity, established under the adopted in 1998 Law on Bank Deposit Guaranty. The Fund protects depositors' funds in banks up to BGN 196,000, as well as creditors' interests in bank bankruptcy proceedings, thus promoting stability of and confidence in the banking system.
Deposit insurance applies to all funds on a bank account opened in favour of one or more persons, authorized to draw money from the account. Deposit insurance is applicable also to funds, which the bank shall repay to clients under the terms provided by law or contact signed.
